Today's systems:

  1. SCSI (servers)

  • SCSI (Small Computer Systems Interface) is an standard that has become one of the leading I/O buses in the computer industry.
  • SCSI is an I/O bus that communicates between a peripheral and a controller on a host computer system. SCSI interfaces are most often used for disk and tape drives, scanners, printers and other devices.
    • multiple devices on one bus
    • internal and external devices
    • high speed
  2. IDE (workstations)
  • IDE (Integrated Drive Electrnics) is a standard electronic interface used between a computer motherboard's data paths or bus and the computer's disk storage devices.
    • up to two devices on one port / usually two ports per computer
    • low price (half of price for SCSI devices)
