Examples of Operating Systems

• DOS - used on IBMs

• Mac OS - used on Apples & Macs

• VMS - used on VAX machines (developed by DEC)

• Ultrix - could also be used on the VAX

• Irix - Used on the SGI’s that comprise the gl cluster.

• Ultrix and Irix are known as “flavors” of UNIX
