Project 1 Notes and Corrections

11 February, 2001 A reminder: if you wind up with odd compiler errors and you followed the instructions below - make sure that you are logged into a linux machine. If you are telnetting in, telnet to linux.gl.umbc.edu instead of to gl.umbc.edu. This will make sure you are on the right platform
09 February 2001 Important Announcement
An unfortunate error in the code we are providing has just come to light at this late date. For those of you who are far enough along in the project, this error is the cause of the "multiple definition of string method..." errors you are getting when you link. For those who are really interested, contact your instructor for an explanation of the error, and why the remedy listed below fixes it.
All students must do the following to compensate for this error.
1. Be sure to copy Mr. Edelman's makefile dated 07 February
2. At the bottom of Proj1_aux.H, #include Proj1_aux.C
Please note that step #2 above is a work-around (a.k.a. kludge) to compensate for the error and only applies to
project 1. Ordinarily you #include the .C file at the bottom of the .H file ONLY FOR CLASS TEMPLATES, and only for this compiler.
Also a reminder -- DO NOT copy source files provided for you (string.C, vector.C, etc) from Mr. Edleman's directory to your directory. You MUST use the makefile to access them.
05 February 2001 The project file, Proj1.C was updated on Feb 5 - it now has more readable output; also, the executable was corrected so that intersection now works correctly.
The complete list of set functions called in Proj1.C is

In addition, you still must implement the "Big 4" - constructor, copy constructor, assignment (already mentioned in the list), and destructor.

The project description does not indicate that operator== is required, but it is used in Proj1.C.
You must provide whatever code is necessary to 'make' Proj1, therefore when in doubt, do what is required by Proj1.C
The project description was updated to include operator==.

The project description shows a method with name "makeEmpty", and the code in Proj1.C uses "MakeEmpty" - use "MakeEmpty", please.

All files are now in place and all links to the files from the project description are now valid.
If you copied Proj1.C from Mr. Edeleman's directory before today, you should copy it again.

Mr. Edelman's public directory for this class is CMSC341, not CMSC-341 as orginally listed in the project description.
