The first assignment in CMSC 621 is to send e-mail to elm@cs.umbc.edu. This e-mail should have the subject line:
I'm taking CMSC 621
and contain three lines in the body of the email that look like:
Name: Ethan Miller E-mail: elm@cs.umbc.edu ID: xxxx
Of course, you should use your own name and student ID (the last 4 digits only). Please feel free to use whatever name you'd like to be called (just keep in mind that "Meathead" probably isn't a good choice).
If you complete the assignment successfully, you should receive an auto-reply message that lists your information. If you don't receive an auto-reply message, it's because your subject line was wrong (in other words, you need to resend your mail if you don't get an auto-reply within 15 minutes).
